Although I had requested a non-smoking room, our room actually smelled strongly of smoke, which spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay

My husband and I plus 14 yr. old stayed at Custom House Hotel. Unusual layout of room with bunk bed over a double bed but clean, comfortable and functionable. Large private shower and seperate toilet. Washbasin in bedroom. T.V.and tea making facilities. Bit noisy Friday night. Breakfast - good choice and plentiful. Self service. Hotel very convenient - opposite DLR station and easy for Central London(about 30 mins.) Suggest buying an Oyster Card for cheapest weekend travel. Visited Natural History & Science Museums - excellent. Also went to Apollo Victoria to see Wicked which was superb. Would definitely use this Hotel again for a short stay.

For us it was a bad choice - my mistake; I hadn't realised how far from town it was - the taxi fare back was £30. Obviously a better choice for anyone needing to be near the Excell Centre.

The Custom Hotel was fairly basic, the rooms were ok one of the few who could cater for a family of 5, but the bathrooms were dirty and smelly and did not improve after two complaints. The Oyster Cards are a fab way to get around with kids, Wagamama restuarants have to be the best place to eat out with little people.
